Look at these Xiaomi clamshell foldable phone renders, rival to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip

This month, we have witnessed two new Xiaomi foldable smartphone patents with a clamshell design. The pattern of both devices looks identical to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. The difference is about the camera module.

The first clamshell model, Mi Mix Flip looked identical to Samsung’s Z Flip while the second Mix Flip model seems to be a cheaper variant, without a cover display and with a camera system similar to the cheap Redmi Note 9T.

Anyways, a graphic designer Technizo Concept has made a series of 3D renders based on the patent documentation. These give us first and a clear look at what the company is preparing to introduce.

Both the models feature a flexible screen with a dual punch-hole camera, which is located in the top left corner. The screen edges are a lot wider than we see with regular smartphone models. We also see this in other folding phones such as the Z Flip and the Razr. But the edges on Xiaomi’s model are just a bit wider, judging by the patent images.

When the device is folded open, the hinge disappears nicely. The folding mechanism is also demonstrated in the video. The tech giant will also build in a sweeper system that is able to remove dust and dirt, which remains unknown for the time being.

Model 1 –

The first model has a unique horizontal camera module on the back that houses two large camera sensors, probably aided by an LED flash. We can also notice a square cutout on the right side of the camera module, which is a small secondary display to show notification icons, time, or function as a camera viewfinder.

On the front, it has a pill-shaped cutout to house two or one selfie camera and an LED flash. The phone should have enough crease in the middle where it folds in half.

Besides these, the phone has a volume rocker and a power button on the right. Whereas, the speaker grille, USB Type-C port, and SIM tray are present at the bottom. It should be noted that there’s no 3.5mm audio jack.

Model 2 –

Unlike the first model, this one has a rounded triple camera module. A wide hole that is embedded in the top left corner for a double punch-hole selfie camera indicates that Xiaomi wants to appeal to successful young people with this phone.

On the right, there are physical buttons, presumably the power button and the volume buttons. Whereas the bottom has space for the SIM compartment, a USB-C port, and a speaker.
