With the announcement of the new Xiaomi 14 series, the company also introduced a new Android skin overlay replacing the old MIUI with HyperOS. However, Xiaomi statement indicates that bootloader-unlocked smartphones won’t get HyperOS update.
Xiaomi said it won’t be updating smartphones with unlocked bootloaders, no matter if they are running HyperOS or MIUI 14. In addition, HyperOS devices will be harder to unlock.
To unlock a Xiaomi phone, the company requires you to submit an application via their Windows app and wait one week until you can finally unlock the bootloader.
Chinese HyperOS users will be required not only to wait out the one week but also to gain level 5 on their community forums. Global users will have to wait for an official announcement on how the new unlocking process will work.
If you lock back your device, you will immediately receive your next HyperOS update.
HyperOS is a human-centric operating system developed by Xiaomi. It’s a refined version of MIUI that offers improvements in performance, AI features, connectivity, and security. HyperOS is designed to connect personal devices, cars, and smart home products in a smart ecosystem.
