New WhatsApp beta update improves end-to-end encrypted chat backups

The developers of WhatsApp continuously provide updates to the application for a better user experience. In an older beta build, the company introduced an end-to-end backup feature for Androids, which aimed to bring more transparency to user’s privacy.

Now the Facebook-owned company has released a new beta update which can be identified via the build version 2.21.12.14. As per the information, this update improves the end-to-end backup feature.

The end-to-end encrypted backups feature will protect your backups from unofficial access while it is uploaded on Google Drive. It also allows you to keep a password for protecting your backup files that won’t be shared with WhatsApp, Facebook, or Google.

Moreover, as shown in the below-mentioned screenshot, the new feature will have an encryption key that only contains numeric digits and lower case letters between ‘a’ and ‘f’. It seems that WhatsApp wants to use hex format.

Do note that this feature is currently only rolled out for Android beta testers and there are no words on its general release. Usually, the company didn’t take much time in releasing the update for general users. As soon as the update delivers it to the public, we’ll let you know. Till then, stay connected.
