Launched back in August 2019, the Redmi Note 8 is came pre-installed with Android 9 (Pie) based MIUI 10 software. Later it received four major updates and is currently running on Android 11 based MIUI 12 operating system.
Meanwhile, the device is also eligible for MIUI 12.5 update. And, as per the new information, the company has started internal stable testing of Redmi Note 8.

It means that the stable MIUI 12.5 update for Redmi Note 8 is not so far. But we still advise taking this piece of news with a pinch of salt as we are unable to verify it.
Aside from this, Xiaomi has recently begun rolling out the stable MIUI 12.5 update in China. The company has already completed first phase and is now preparing for the second.
However, the Redmi Note 8 is not eligible for second phase. Let’s wait and see when the company sends a 12.5 update for it. Interested Xiaomi smartphone users can check for the latest update via Settings > About Phone > MIUI Version > Check for updates.
