Samsung Galaxy S24 series may become first mobile phone equipped with Wi-Fi 7

This year, Samsung released its flagship phone, the Galaxy S22 / S22+/S22 Ultra. Although the Galaxy S23 series, an iterative product of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series of mobile phones, has not yet been released, there are already leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series of mobile phones that will be released in 2024.

According to wccftech’s report, Wi-Fi 7 technology will be launched in 2024, and the current Wi-Fi 6E is only a transitional technology. The first device to support Wi-Fi 7 will be the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, which will have a 300MHz channel and support 4K Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) technology for maximum speed compared to Wi-Fi 6 with the same number of antennas 2.4 times higher.

Previously, IC packaging and testing supply chain practitioners admitted that at present, international WiFi SoC manufacturers are actively preparing Wi-Fi 7 products, and it is expected that high-end mobile phones that support the Wi-Fi 7 standard may come out in the second half of 2024 at the earliest.

On April 13 this year, Broadcom released its first WiFi 7 SoC, model number BCM4916, which uses a quad-core ARMv8 processor that provides up to 24 DMIPS of performance, 1 MB L2 cache, and 64 kB L1 cache.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series Wi-Fi 7On September 9, Intel teamed up with Broadcom to achieve “the world’s first cross-vendor Wi-Fi 7 demonstration”. The speed of this Wi-Fi 7 cross-vendor demonstration exceeded 5Gbps. Intel says Wi-Fi 7 can bring higher speeds, lower latency, higher reliability, and greater capacity, including 320MHz channel bandwidth in unlicensed 6GHz spectrum, 4K QAM quadrature amplitude modulation, multi-link operation MLO, as well as improved through the multi-resource unit and puncturing channel utilization.

At present, the Wi-Fi 7 standard has not been finalized, and its product solution is only a semi-finished product solution based on the functions defined in the IEEE P802.11be draft amendment. Intel is said to plan to launch Wi-Fi 7-certified products in accordance with the Wi-Fi Alliance certification schedule (2023-2024 time frame).
