It’s been a long when Xiaomi MIUI users started complaining about the Proximity Sensor problem in their respective Redmi, Mi, and Poco handsets. Now it looks like Xiaomi is aware of this and is working on a speedy fix.

Nowadays, a mobile phone is equipped with a large number of sensors, such as gravity sensor, infrared sensor, fingerprint sensor, Camera Laser focus sensor, proximity light sensor, etc. Among them, the proximity light sensor plays a big role in smartphones.

When your face is close to your phone, it will trigger the induction to realize the temporary screen rest, thereby avoiding accidental touch. While there were several reports that the sensor isn’t working correctly as the display lights up continuously during calls.

The exact source of the problem hasn’t been confirmed, but some users believe it’s a hardware issue. Therefore, Xiaomi decided to end its deal with Elliptic Labs – the company’s supplier for proximity sensors. It has now struck a deal with Minghao Sensing, although it’s unclear when the new sensors will make it to Xiaomi’s phones.

Anyways, the tech giant will fix these annoying bugs by planting OTA updates to the affected devices in an attempt to re-calibrate the sensors. But in case this is a broad hardware issue, as some suspect, this might not be the solution some users were hoping for.
