New WhatsApp UPI Payments presentation section is under development

We all are familiar with WhatsApp, this messenger app is famous all over the world. In November 2020, the company added the payments service for its Indian users. This service allows users to send and receive money as simple as sending a text message.

To enable the Pay functionality, WhatsApp uses the UPI method, which is India’s first real-time payment system. However, the developers have not yet rolled out the payments feature for every user, but Indian consumers can enable it to send Payment requests.

Right now, the Payments request is the only way to enable the feature for a contact. It’s worth noticing that it is totally free and it allows UPI Payments for the recipient of the request.

Meanwhile, as per the new information by WABetaInfo, the Facebook owned company is preparing to add a new section to present UPI Payments. As of now, we cannot clarify whether the company is working on this or not.

Moreover, we expect that this time, WhatsApp could allow everyone in India to send UPI Payments by default without any payment request, which means a wider rollout of the UPI Payments service.

WABetaInfo also shared some screenshots of the user interface of the expected section. It is said that the user will normally configure UPI Payments and, after linking a bank account, they can send and receive money on WhatsApp.

However, this feature is currently under development and available for only a limited number of WhatsApp beta users. Users can identify the latest WhatsApp Android beta update via build number: 2.21.10.11.
