Xiaomi fans want AMOLED screens in next smartphones instead of LCD panels

Recently, Lu Weibing, the Vice President Xiaomi Group and General Manager of Redmi released a poll on Weibo. The poll asked the users on the social media platform whether they prefer AMOLED or LCD displays.

As per the result, a majority preferring the AMOLED over LCD. In the poll, over 14,000 people chose AMOLED panels as their preferred choice of display, while just 6051 people opted for LCD panels.

Moreover. the senior director of the Chinese tech giant added that there are still a number of people that still preferred the LCD panels, but, the majority have chosen AMOLED. However, a similar poll was held last year as well, with a number of users preferring the LCD displays, so the executive aimed to evaluate preferences this year also.

In December 2020, Xiaomi launched the Redmi K30 series with the lineup sporting LCD panels that reached a peak brightness of up to 650 nits. On the other side, the Redmi K40 series that were launched this year arrived with a Samsung E4 AMOLED panel that offered a peak brightness of up to 1300 pits, with a 5 million:1 contrast ratio.

Further, a few of the users that preferred LCD panels pointed at shortcomings of the OLED panels in recent times. These users highlight the smearing problem on certain smartphones with high refresh rates along with the PWM dimming issue, while LCDs work well if they have a good DC dimming.
