Redmi/Poco helped Xiaomi to maintain the top spot in India’s online smartphone market

According to a new report, under the leadership of Flipkart, India’s online smartphone market reached an all-time high of 45% in 2020. It has registered an increase of seven% (year-over-year) in an epidemic-hit year.

As per the results, followed by Amazon with 44% share, Flipkart was the top online platform with 48% share. Counterpoint Research said on Friday that Amazon grew 34% (on-year) and is the fastest growing online platform.

Moreover, with a 40% market share driven by Redmi and Poco, the Chinese company, Xiaomi remained the top online brand. Whereas Samsung achieved the second position with a 19% share.

Realme was third in the online segment, also with a 19% share. While according to Counterpoint, Realme continued the top smartphone brand on Flipkart in 2020, registering a growth of 27% (on year).

Vivo took fourth place due to strong shipments of the Y91i, Y20, and V20 series. The report stated, “OnePlus was the top online premium smartphone brand on Amazon and occupied fifth place in the overall online smartphone market.”

Other than this, the top five brands in the online market reached more than 82% of total shipments. Among them, Realme and Poco were the top smartphone brands on Flipkart as they have gained more than 50% of shipments.

In addition, the premium online smartphone market recorded a 22% (on-year) growth due to these strategies. Apple, OnePlus, and Samsung eliminated this share and contributed to almost 90% of shipments in this segment.

It is also reported that the focus on low-cost ownership and upgrading, such as O2O (online-to-offline) and financing schemes, will also increase smartphone adoption in the country.
