Apple iOS 16 will bring’clean energy charging’ option for iPhone users in US

According to Apple’s official press release, in the update after iOS 16, Apple will bring the “ clean energy charging ” option to iPhone users in the United States.

Apple’s goal is to reduce the iPhone’s carbon footprint by optimizing the time it takes to charge the grid using clean energy. This is also the first time Apple has mentioned clean energy charging.

As reported by 9To5Mac, iOS 16 has a new option (a process that runs in the background) that collects carbon emissions data from local load balancers such as the US EIA based on the device’s location.

iOS then also downloads the carbon emissions forecast from the server. Combining all this data, the system can control when clean energy charging begins.

In addition, there are other features in the official version of iOS 16 that are not yet available and will be available in future updates, including iCloud shared photo library, real-time activity, and support for the Matter smart home standard.

Moreover, Apple no longer comes with a charging head since the iPhone 12, and announced a series of environmental protection measures, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
