According to the latest report, Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are “in development and testing”, and these laptops may still be available in a release later this year.
In today’s Power On newsletter, Gurman said that Apple plans to release the new MacBook Pro “as early as this fall,” but, as always, said there’s a chance the timeframe could be pushed back due to supply chain disruptions or other reasons. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that mass production of the new MacBook Pro laptops will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

While some reports suggest that the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips may be Apple’s first 3nm chips, it seems increasingly likely that these chips will remain manufactured on the 5nm process. These chips will still offer a performance boost compared to the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips in the current MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models, as Apple is expected to switch from TSMC’s standard 5nm process “N5” to a more advanced 5nm process Made by “N5P”.
Similar to the standard M2 chip, the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips will also have increased GPU core count and memory compared to the M1 Pro/Max products. Apple’s new MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch 14-inch and 16-inch are rumored to have no major design changes, which makes sense considering the new design will only launch in October 2021.
Previous redesigns included the return of ports like MagSafe and HDMI, which brought an upgraded 1080p camera and a slimmer-bezel display with a notch.
