Google’s next-generation operating system Fuchsia OS will support Android’s ADB tools

Google’s Fuchsia team has started a new work, allowing the use of ADB tools to manage Fuchsia devices, just like Android phones. ADB is short for “Android Debug Bridge”, and as the name suggests, this tool is able to “bridge” two devices together. Developers and geeks can use ADB to access some of the core components of Android phones and tablets from PC devices.

What’s more, ADB tools run on every major desktop platform – Windows, macOS, and Linux (and by extension ChromeOS), so Fuchsia OS wants to get one too. This week, the Fuchsia team requested a new merge called ” ADB on Fuchsia “, but it is currently showing merge conflicts.

Moreover, the core “fx” and “ffx” tools currently used to control Fuchsia devices are only compatible with Linux and macOS devices, and compatibility with Windows devices will not be completed until the end of the year. So, considering the versatility and breadth, it seems that ADB is a better choice.

Also, according to the commit, the Google Fuchsia team only seems to intend to support 4 ADB commands :

  • adb shell: Internal command prompt for accessing the device

  • adb logcat: used to output device logs

  • adb push: used to push files to the device

  • adb pull: for pulling files from the device

Moreover, Google’s internal operating system, Fuchsia, currently only supports the company’s two smart displays, the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max, and it’s unclear when it will be rolled out to mobile devices such as phones and tablets.
