The autonomous driving computing chip manufacturer Black Sesame Intelligence announced that it will cooperate with BlackBerry QNX to create a highly reliable, high-performance, flexible and open autonomous driving platform. According to reports, the platform will be based on Black Sesame’s intelligent and high-performance Huashan No. 2 A1000 autonomous driving computing chip, using BlackBerry’s real-time operating system (RTOS) that has passed ISO 26262 ASIL-D safety certification.
Moreover, the chip aims to provide automakers and Tier-1 auto suppliers with innovative solutions with high computing power, high stability and reliability, and high portability, and accelerate the mass production and launch of autonomous driving models. At present, the two parties have jointly obtained a series of car company projects, and the goal is to achieve mass production in 2022. Xiaomi will be the first to invest in core chip link companies.

According to the data, Black Sesame Intelligence was established in 2016. In the same year, it obtained the Around of financing from Northern Lights Venture Capital. In 2018, it announced the completion of the A+ round of strategic financing of nearly 100 million yuan.
It is worth mentioning that in August 2019, Black Sesame Smart’s first vehicle-grade intelligent driving chip, the Huashan No. 1 A500, was launched in China, with a computing power of up to 10TOPS. In less than a year, the second-generation chip Huashan No. 2 A1000 came out, and the computing power was further improved, reaching 116TOPS, and it became the first domestic chip that can support L2+ autonomous driving.
Furthermore, in September this year, Black Sesame Intelligence announced the completion of two rounds of financing, the strategic round and the C round of financing, with a valuation of nearly 2 billion US dollars (about 12.9 billion yuan). It is worth noting that this financing party also includes Xiaomi, which is first involved in the automotive industry. This is also Xiaomi’s first investment in the upstream core chip link of the automobile after it announced the manufacture of a car.
