Xiaomi officially released its first imaging chip, Surge C1

In the past few days, Xiaomi launched several new smart products including a set of new smartphones, Smart Band, charger, and much more. Now, on the second day of the event, the company has released more products including a self-developed chip, Surge C1.

Back in March 2017, Xiaomi released its first own chipset, surging S1. It’s been four years now when the company has introduced its second self-developed chipset. In regards, Lei Jun previously said that Xiaomi did encounter huge difficulties in chip manufacturing but they didn’t rest the plan of manufacturing chipsets.

Moreover, unlike Surge S1, the Surge C1 is an ISP chip. It is just a small step for Xiaomi to continue exploring professional images. It successfully represents Xiaomi’s endless technological dreams and pursuits.

The Surge C1 supports a dual filter configuration, which can realize parallel processing of high and low-frequency signals. Moreover, the signal processing efficiency has a 100% increase.

The more important thing that has been greatly improved is the 3A performance of the image with the self-developed algorithm. Here, 3A refers to AF focusing, AWB white balance, and AE automatic exposure.

The newly announced Surge C1 ISP chip brings improvements in three areas:

  • Better autofocus (AF) – greatly improving the ability to focus on dark light, small objects, and flat areas;
  • More accurate white balance (AWB) – complex mixed ambient light is also completely controlled;
  • More accurate automatic exposure (AE) strategy.

Anyways, the first smartphone sporting this chip is the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold for supporting the lenses to improve the overall image quality. We can also expect this chip to trickle down to other Xiaomi devices in the future but we will have to wait for the official word.
