Xiaomi to introduce three Snapdragon 870 powered smartphones this year

In the last few months, Xiaomi launched a bunch of new smartphones including mid-rangers and flagships. Among them, the Redmi K40 and Mi 10S are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor.

Now, a new report claims that the company is planning to launch three more Snapdragon 870 chipset-powered phones this year. Although we have not yet found out any information about these handsets.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 is a 7nm chipset, which seems to be an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865 Plus chip. It features the Kryo 585 CPU which has its prime core clocked at 3.2GHz, 100 megaHertz more than that of the Snapdragon 865 Plus’s prime core.

The Adreno 650 is the GPU inside and it packs a Snapdragon X55 5G modem that brings support for mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. It also has support for Bluetooth 5.2, support for Wi-Fi 6, and Quick Charge 4+.

It appears that the existence of the Snapdragon 870 SoC is due to manufacturers’ demand for a new chipset for more affordable flagships that cost significantly less than premium phones. Basically, it is a chipset for flagship killers.

Moreover, Xiaomi isn’t the only manufacturer with devices powered by the SD870 chipset. Other phone makers including Motorola, OPPO, and iQOO have launched their devices powered by the SD870.
