Samsung to supply OLED panels for Xiaomi’s foldable smartphones, launch expected this year

As per the news from Korean media, Samsung Display is apparently working on developing foldable OLED display panels for various companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and Google.

It is reported that these panels will feature an in-folding design with sizes ranging from 7.6 inches to 8.03 inches. The report also says that smartphones using these panels will launch this year.

Moreover, last year, Xiaomi uncovered a model with a 7.92-inch screen, developed in partnership with Visionox. Meanwhile now, the company is switching from an out-folding screen to an in-folding screen.

For the Xiaomi product this year, the company is aiming for an 8.03-inch panel size and the outer screen will be sized 6.38-inch. The panel is being developed by Samsung Display and China Star Optoelectronics (CSOT).

Besides this, previously we have seen some leaked live images of the upcoming Xiaomi phone, which is expected to be launched this year. The phone looks similar to what Xiaomi’s VP showcased a few years back but this one has a bigger display like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold2.

On the other hand, we have also been reported that Xiaomi may launch new foldable phones in 2021. The first will be out-folding, the second will be in-folding and the third will be clamshell. We can expect that this is the only in-folding phone for which Samsung is developing foldable OLED display panels.
