Volkswagen sets up ‘New Mobility’ division to focus on electric vehicles

With the continuous development of the entire electric vehicle industry, many traditional car companies have begun to actively invest in the research and development of electric vehicles and have launched their own electric vehicles. Yesterday, the Volkswagen Group announced new appointments, further increasing the emphasis on electric vehicles.

According to information released on Volkswagen’s official website, Volkswagen’s passenger car business is undergoing restructuring, and Volkswagen will establish a new division called “New Mobility”, which is mainly responsible for electric vehicles and digitalization.

At the same time, VW has appointed development chief Thomas Ulbrich as head of the new division, who will be responsible for VW’s current ID range of electric vehicles and future electric models, including the VW brand’s upcoming development under the Trinity project.

On July 22 this year, Volkswagen Group fired its CEO Herbert Diess, and the new CEO was Volkswagen Group Porsche CEO, Oliver Blume. Bloom expressed support for his predecessor’s electric vehicle strategy on his first day in office, but he also said that conventional internal combustion engines can also play a role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.
