Internal combustion engines can also play role in reducing emissions: Volkswagen CEO

Bloom said that while he supports VW’s promotion of electric vehicles, and may even accelerate it, VW could also continue to make cars with low-carbon internal combustion engines for many years to come. “The advantage of synthetic fuels (e-Fuels) is that they can be transported like conventional fuels,” Bloom said in an interview with the media. “In addition, the current infrastructure can also be used.”

According to reports, Bloom and his development team have been supportive of synthetic fuels (e-Fuels), which can be used in traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, so that traditional internal combustion engine vehicles will not be eliminated prematurely and can effectively reduce carbon emissions.

According to Ferdinand Dudenhoffer of the Duisburg-based Center for Automotive Research, Bloom’s support for an increased role for synthetic fuels in VW’s overall strategy could lead VW to shift some of its resources away from electric vehicles to conventional vehicles. “As a result, the Volkswagen Group’s investments in electric vehicles may be affected,” Dudenhoffer said.

Volkswagen Group had previously approved the new CEO Bloom’s plan to reduce the number of members of the management committee from 12 to 10 to ensure that its decisions can be implemented more quickly.
