Samsung Display files trademark for ‘Flex G’ dual-folding smartphone

At CES 2022, Samsung showed off the Flex G and Flex S concept folding screen devices. The Flex S and Flex G are dual-folding phone-tablet hybrid device concepts designed by Samsung Display to demonstrate other form factors enabled by foldable technology beyond the clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip and book-style Galaxy Z Fold.

Recently, Samsung Display registered the “Flex G” trademark in South Korea. Last July, Samsung Display also registered the “S Flex” trademark on KIPRIS. “Flex G” has now been added, and both trademarks are classified under the same classification of the Korea Intellectual Property Information Service.

Samsung Display has also experimented with larger foldable devices, such as the Flex Note concept. The latter is likely to soon join the ranks of two other “Flex” devices from KIPRIS. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series performed well.

Samsung Display Flex G TrademarkThe era of folding screen phones is officially here, and Samsung may be preparing to expand into the emerging field of folding screen devices in new forms. Samsung says it has no plans to release any other foldable devices until it ensures the success and maturity of the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series.

It should be noted that Samsung Display is a different organization from Samsung Electronics, and now it is the Samsung Display division that demonstrated the Flex S and Flex G concepts and obtained the trademark.

In other words, Samsung Display is a business that probably wants to sell its foldable panels to as many customers as possible. So these types of bi-folding panels made could end up being used by other mobile device makers other than Samsung.
