Tesla FSD officially raises price to $15,000 without adding new features

According to the report, Tesla has recently officially raised the price of the advanced driver assistance system Full Self-Driving (FSD) package to USD 15,000. Moreover, there is a view that this FSD system is not currently worth $15,000.

Except for the $3,000 increase over the original price, the system has not added new features; although the enhanced version of Autopilot is $9,000 more, users who start with it only have the opportunity to experience the latest beta version of FSD.

For years, Musk has said that as the capabilities of the FSD system continue to improve, it will eventually allow cars to drive fully autonomously. Tesla will also gradually increase the price of the system. So far, the FSD is far from living up to its name. While testing has been underway for two years, the car is still a long way from being fully autonomous.

Technically, the FSD system can operate in most traffic situations, including crossing intersections, but the onus is on the driver, who still needs to be attentive and ready to take over. Industry insiders believe that the most important step for companies developing autonomous driving systems to achieve this goal is to be willing to take responsibility for driving when the system is activated.

Tesla has made it clear it can’t do that yet. The company sent a series of warnings to users who participated in the FSD beta test, making it clear that the responsibility for driving remains with the driver. Tesla believes that each update to the FSD system is a step closer to achieving full self-driving, and believes that some of these updates are worthy of raising the overall price of the system.

Musk also announced last month that Tesla will increase the price of the system from $12,000 to $15,000 as the company rolls out the beta version of FSD Beta 10.69 on a wider scale. On Monday, Tesla updated the FSD pricing information on the vehicle customization page on its official website – a $3,000 increase but didn’t include more new features.

There are more words such as “coming soon” and “automatic steering on urban roads” in the page description. It is still in the testing phase and opens to invited users, and it is not much different from the previous routine updates. If the user already owns Tesla’s enhanced Autopilot system, there is nothing new for the $9,000 other than the chance to experience the latest beta FSD, and the beta experience itself is not a reward.

Musk has made it clear that a fully self-driving system is worth well over $15,000. He said prices will continue to rise. In fact, the original price of the FSD system was only $6,000, and now spending $9,000 more is not what users really want, but a bet that Tesla can provide true self-driving functions in the future, at a lower cost.

But it’s not clear how Tesla got the beta FSD to evolve into a safe self-driving system that’s willing to take responsibility.
