Sony’s upcoming PS5 models may be equipped with new AMD 6nm chipset

Sony announced last week that the price of PS5 consoles will increase in multiple markets. Not only that, but information shows that Sony will soon launch a new model of PS5. According to Japanese retailers, Sony will release a third PS5 model in the next few weeks. The new PS5 model, model CFI-1200, will go on sale in Japan on September 15 (the same day that the price of the PS5 in Japan goes up).

It’s unclear what changes will be made to the new PS5 models, but there is speculation that the upcoming PS5 models will use the new AMD 6nm chipset. Since this is a newer chip, its supply should be much better, allowing Sony to produce PS5 consoles at a faster pace.

Speculation is that while the chipset is significantly different from the custom 7nm AMD CPUs already used in the PS5, no major performance changes are expected, a change Sony made purely to improve productivity.

This is not the first time that Sony has updated the PS5 console. At this time last year, Sony launched a new PS5 model with model CFI-1102A. The weight of this new model dropped by 300 grams and was replaced with a new model. Bottom screws and smaller cooling fans, no major changes.
