On December 16, Mediatek officially introduced its new Dimensity 9000 flagship processor for new-gen smartphones. The makers also named the smartphone brands that will be incorporating Dimensity 9000 SoC in their upcoming devices.
One such brand is Xiaomi’s Redmi. Recently, Redmi officially announced its Redmi K50 series smartphone will be powered by the new MediaTek processor. Although the tech giant hasn’t clarified the exact name of the device, it is most likely to be Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.

It has been also revealed that the first Dimensity 9000 device will be uncovered in Q1 2022 and Redmi K50 series is also predicted to be released at the same time. However, similar to K40 Gaming, K50 Gaming is also expected to be released later than the original model.
Confirming Redmi K50 with MediaTek DImensity 9000 chipset, Redmi general manager Lu Weibing said –
With the overall improvements that the Dimensity 9000 platform brings to the table, and being an indispensable part of our Redmi K50 series, users can expect to see a noticeable, upgraded performance in our upcoming devices.
MediaTek Dimensity 9000
The new Dimensity 9000 chipset features a powerful CPU layout on paper (one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores), a Mali-G710 MC10 GPU, and an ISP capable of 8K recording and 320MP single camera support. So any phones released with this SoC will definitely be flagship-level.
Redmi K50: What we know so far
Redmi K50 series isn’t a secret now, we have heard several news and rumors about it. A few days ago, tipster DigitalChatStation revealed that Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has a flat display with a centrally positioned punch-hole. Its right edge has lift-type mechanical shoulder buttons for gaming. And, it will offer a high-performance gaming experience.
In addition, the Redmi K50 devices will continue to adopt ultra-high-quality screens and will come with a flagship display. As per the information, Redmi’s plan for the new products has aspects, which are – E6 material OLED, Adaptive refresh rate technology, 2K ultra-clear resolution, and Independent display.
In terms of optics, it may feature a 64MP (Sony IMX686), 13MP (ultrawide), 8MP (telemacro), and 2MP (depth) quad-camera unit. It is said that there is another variant of the phone that features a 108Mp Samsung HM2 primary camera.
