Alleged Snapdragon 888 Pro appeared on Geekbench, could release in Q3 2021

Following Xiaomi Mi 11 in December last year, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset powers most of the flagship smartphones of this year, such as Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Black Shark 4 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 series, OnePlus 9, and others.

Meanwhile, a piece of new information reveals that Qualcomm will release its successor, the Snapdragon 888 Pro chipset in the second half of this year. It is reported that the new product labeled “Qualcomm Lahaina” appeared on the Geekbench.

Besides Geekbench, a reliable Weibo tipster suggests that the biggest possible change from the Snapdragon 888 seems to be the maximum performance of the chipset’s core, which runs at 3GHz on a maximum single-core frequency.

Moreover, the SD888 Pro received scores of 1171 for single-core performance and 3704 for multiple-core performance. Compared to the Snapdragon 888, the test scores are about 3 to 6% higher, which isn’t huge.

A few weeks ago, a tipster revealed that the upgraded version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 flagship processor, Snapdragon 888 Pro, is currently being tested by domestic manufacturers and is expected to be equipped with models in the third quarter of 2021. At the same time, he said that it could not be released in China.

The original Snapdragon 888 was manufactured using Samsung’s 5nm process technology and a 1+3+4 core configuration. The super-large core Cortex-X1’s frequency is 2.84GHz, 3×2.4GHz A78 core, and 4×1.8 GHz A55 core. It equips Adreno 660 GPU and X60 5G baseband with a maximum bandwidth of 7.5Gbps.
