Mozilla Firefox 105 official version released, improves performance

A few weeks ago, Google Chrome 105 and Microsoft Edge 105 browsers were released, and now, Mozilla Firefox has ushered in the official version 105. Firefox 104 last month brought support for Disney+ picture-in-picture captions and improvements to screenshot behavior. Here are the new features in Firefox 105:

  • Added option to print only the current page from the print preview dialog.
  • Partitioned service workers in third-party contexts are now supported. Users can register a service worker in a third-party iframe, which will be partitioned under the top-level domain.
  • Swipe navigation (two-finger swipe left or right on a touchpad to go backward or forward in history) is now enabled on Windows.
  • Compliant to support the User Timing L3 specification, which adds additional optional parameters to the performance mark and performance measure methods to provide custom start time, end time, duration, and additional details.
  • Searching a single item in a large list is 2x faster. This performance enhancement replaces array.includes and array.indexOf with optimized SIMD versions.

In terms of fixes, Mozilla has significantly improved the performance of the Windows version by changing the way Firefox handles low-memory situations. Linux customers will experience similar benefits, as Firefox is now less likely to run out of memory.

At the same time, make macOS touchpad scrolling more accessible by “reducing accidental diagonal scrolling opposite to the intended scroll axis”. In terms of security fixes, Firefox 105 fixes four high-severity, two medium-severity, and two low-severity security vulnerabilities.
