In a statement, he said his department was already considering shutting down the copper network and wanted telecommunications providers and the public to have until Nov 24.
The minister noted that Singapore has moved to full fiber use, while Australia and New Zealand are in the later stages of that process.
The old communication infrastructure was insufficient to meet the growing demands of the public. They are polluting and perform poorly, he said in a statement, pointing to a global shift to fiber-optic networks as a trend.
