Microsoft Win11/10 UWP apps now support WebView2, based on Chromium core

Microsoft announced that WebView2 is now available for WinUI 2 desktop Windows applications (UWP). Unlike the original EdgeHTML-based WebView, WebView2 is based on the Chromium core.

WebView2 allows Windows developers to embed web content into WinUI 2 UWP applications. Compared with the previous EdgeHTML-based WebView, which is the same core as the old Edge browser, the new Chromium-based version provides better compatibility, sustainability, support, and modern features.

Additionally, because WebView2 is part of Windows 11 and Windows 10, developers using WebView2 can provide customers with “lighter” applications.

Moreover, Microsoft PowerApps has the first built-in WebView2, which allows developers to use drag-and-drop elements to create user interfaces and is a low-code tool.
