LG Electronics OLED market share in Europe reached 65.8% in Q1 2022: Report

With the continuous development of OLED technology, more and more TVs using OLED panels are used, and the sales of OLED TVs are also increasing. According to BUSINESSKOREA, GFU data shows that TV sales in Germany reached 1.6 billion euros in the first half of this year, of which OLED TVs accounted for 29% of total sales, a simultaneous increase of 7%. Last year, German OLED TV sales reached 1.1 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 24%, breaking the 1 billion euro mark for the first time in history.

Europe is the world’s largest TV market and the largest battlefield for global home appliance manufacturers. According to market research firm Omdia, in 2021, European TV sales will account for 23% of global TV sales, of which European OLED TV sales will be about 2.9 million units, accounting for 44% of global OLED TV sales. This year, Omdia expects to sell 3.4 million OLED TVs in Europe, up 17% year on year.

Omdia predicts that high-end TVs above $1,500 will account for 55% of the European market this year, and that number will top 66% next year. In the first quarter of this year, LG Electronics led the OLED TV market in Europe. Specifically, LG Electronics occupies 65.8% of the market share of OLED TVs in Europe, ranking first. Sony holds 17% of the market, ranking second. Philips holds an 11% market share, ranking third.

Omdia released a report on May 13 that LG Display will be the only supplier of OLED TV panels in 2021, with 82% of its shipments going to LG Electronics and Sony. It is reported that GFU was established in 1973, formerly known as the German Consumer Electronics Promotion Association, and is currently the organizer of IFA, the largest consumer electronics and information technology exhibition in Europe.
