Xiaomi India came first with 7 million smartphones for 19% share in Q2 2022: Canalys

Canalys has now announced the shipments of the Indian smartphone market in the second quarter. Overall, India’s smartphone shipments in Q2 reached 36.4 million units, down 5% from Q1. Although the second quarter was impacted by a new wave of the new crown epidemic, it was still very optimistic compared to the same period last year, with shipments increasing by 12% year-on-year in the quarter.

It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi maintained its leading position in the Indian market, with a single quarter shipment of 7 million units; Samsung ranked second with 6.7 million shipments; realme ranked third (6.1 million); Vivo and OPPO ranked in the top five with 6 million and 5.5 million units respectively.

Moreover, Xiaomi Redmi India officially announced yesterday that Xiaomi has shipped 200 million smartphones in India, reaching a new milestone. Xiaomi also said that in the past year, it has released 15 5G smartphones in the Indian market, preparing for the 5G era in India.

However, Xiaomi has also encountered some problems in India. In May of this year, Indian law enforcement authorities claimed that Xiaomi’s subsidiary violated the “Foreign Exchange Management Act”, illegally sent money to overseas institutions, and seized about 4.8 billion yuan of assets belonging to Xiaomi Technology India Private Limited. Although it has not shown much impact so far, it remains to be seen how it will follow.
