Why Ford might worry about RAM’s new warranty

Starting in 2026, RAM is stepping up its game with a bold move that could make Ford nervous. They’re offering a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty on their trucks, doubling the coverage of most competitors. This includes popular models like the RAM 1500, heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 trucks, and even the ProMaster van. Only fleet buyers and the electric ProMaster EV are left out.

This long warranty shows RAM trusts its engines, like the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 and the new Hurricane inline-six, to last. RAM’s boss, Tim Kuniskis, says truck owners keep their vehicles longer now—about 12.6 years on average. With buyers financing trucks over longer terms, a decade-long warranty could convince loyal Ford or Chevy fans to switch. Trucks are expensive, often costing as much as luxury cars, so this extra protection could be a big deal for customers.

Ford and Chevy haven’t said if they’ll match this offer, but they might need to. In the truck world, where brand loyalty is strong, RAM’s warranty could stand out. If Ford doesn’t respond, they risk losing customers who want that extra peace of mind. RAM’s move is a smart way to build trust and grab attention in a tough market.
