Trump refuses to contact Minnesota Governor after tragic shootings
President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will not reach out to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz following the tragic shootings of two state lawmakers over the weekend. The attacks, described as politically motivated, left Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark dead, while Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were injured.

Trump, speaking to reporters on Air Force One after leaving a G7 summit in Canada early, called Walz “whacked out” and said calling him would be a “waste of time.” He also claimed Walz appointed the suspect, Vance Boelter, to a state position, referring to Boelter’s role on a workforce development board under former Governor Mark Dayton in 2016. Walz’s spokesperson, Teddy Tschann, responded, saying the governor wishes Trump would act as a leader for all Americans.

“This tragedy isn’t about Trump or Walz,” Tschann stated. “It’s about the Hortman and Hoffman families and the people of Minnesota. The governor is focused on helping them heal.” Walz has spoken with Vice President JD Vance and former President Joe Biden, expressing gratitude for their support and coordination with federal and state officials.

The suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, was arrested after a manhunt. A manifesto found in his car listed other lawmakers, targeting those supporting abortion rights. Minnesota’s congressional delegation has since increased security measures.
