Samsung is planning a big change for its Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to launch in July 2025. For the first time, the company might use only its own Exynos 2500 chip in all models, moving away from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors. This shift could make the Flip 7 the first foldable phone to rely completely on Exynos globally.
Why is Samsung making this move?
The Exynos 2500, built with advanced 3nm technology, promises strong performance and better battery life. However, producing these chips is challenging, with a current yield rate of about 30%, far below the 60% needed for smooth mass production. Despite the risks, Samsung sees this as a chance to improve its chip-making skills for future devices.
Another reason is cost.
Snapdragon chips are getting pricier, squeezing Samsung’s profits. By using Exynos, the company can save money and rely less on Qualcomm. But there’s a catch: if the Exynos 2500 overheats or underperforms, it could upset customers.
Samsung plans to ship around 5 million Flip 7 and Fold 7 units combined, so this is a bold bet.
Looking ahead, this experience could help Samsung perfect its next chip, the Exynos 2600, for the Galaxy S26 in 2026. For now, fans are eager to see if this gamble pays off at the Galaxy Unpacked event, rumored for mid-July in New York.
