OpenAI and Jony Ive’s AI project faces name dispute
OpenAI and Jony Ive’s exciting AI hardware project has hit a small bump. The two were working on a new company called “io,” but another AI startup, iyO, has filed a lawsuit claiming the name is too similar. As a result, OpenAI has taken down a blog post and a nine-minute video featuring Ive and OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, talking about their plans.

The video and post are no longer on OpenAI’s website or YouTube. Despite the name issue, the $6.5 billion deal to bring Ive’s team into OpenAI is still moving forward. The plan is to create a group of AI-powered devices that make using technology simpler and more natural. Ive, famous for designing Apple’s iPhone, and Altman want to build gadgets that don’t rely on screens, unlike smartphones or laptops.

They aim to make AI feel like a helpful companion in daily life. The lawsuit from iyO, started by former Google X workers, has caused OpenAI to pause using the “io” name. For now, the project continues without a public brand, but the team is still working hard. Ive and Altman are expected to share more details about their innovative devices next year, with a possible launch in 2026. This collaboration could change how we interact with AI, blending sleek design with smart technology.
