Oakley and Meta team up for new smart glasses
Oakley and Meta, the company behind Facebook, are set to launch a new pair of smart glasses on June 20, according to recent social media hints. These glasses, likely based on Oakley’s Sphaera model, are designed with athletes like cyclists in mind. They’ll include a camera in the center of the frame for taking photos and videos, plus smart features powered by Meta’s AI.

This AI can answer questions about what you see, play music through built-in speakers, and even let you take phone calls hands-free. This isn’t Meta’s first try at smart glasses. They already have a popular version with Ray-Ban, but the Oakley model aims to appeal to sports lovers with its rugged, active style. The glasses are expected to have similar features to the Ray-Ban version, like capturing moments on the go and offering voice-activated AI help.

Meanwhile, Apple is working on its smart glasses to compete, with a possible launch by late 2026. Their version will likely include cameras, microphones, and AI, much like Meta’s. Both companies are also exploring full augmented reality glasses, but those are still years away. For now, the Oakley-Meta glasses are a big step in blending tech with sporty style, and we’ll know more details soon.
