Nothing, the tech company, recently cleared up confusion about its Essential Space feature, a handy AI hub for storing notes, screenshots, and more. In a chat with CEO Carl Pei, he said the current version of Essential Space will stay free, calming worries sparked by old code found in a leaked app that hinted at possible charges.
Pei admitted the company could have been clearer with users, saying, “We saw the questions but didn’t explain well. Now we’ve made it clear—no fees for what Essential Space does today.”
Looking ahead, Nothing might add a paid version later with extra features, following a trend where phone brands offer premium services for a fee. Pei suggested any future paid tier would bring added value to make it worth the cost.
For now, though, users can keep enjoying Essential Space without reaching for their wallets.
This news comes as Nothing gears up for its Phone (3) launch on July 1, 2025, which will include Essential Space and run on Android 15 with Nothing OS 3.0. The company’s focus on AI features shows its push to compete in the smartphone world while keeping core tools free for its fans.
