New voice search feature rolls out on Google app
Google is making searching easier with a new voice feature called Search Live, now available on the Google app for Android and iOS. This tool lets you talk to Google like you’re chatting with a friend, asking questions and getting answers in real time. It’s powered by Google’s Project Astra, the same tech behind Gemini Live, and offers a smooth, hands-free way to find information.

When you use Search Live, a colorful waveform appears below the search bar, replacing the Google Lens shortcut. You can also start it by tapping a round button in AI Mode. The screen shows a simple design with the Google logo, a moving waveform, and buttons to mute or see a transcript. You can pick from four voice options: Cosmo, Neso, Terra, or Cassini. As you speak, Search Live answers and shows a list of websites it used, so you can check them out for more details.

It can ask you questions to clarify what you need and keep the conversation going, even if you switch apps. Right now, the camera feature isn’t ready, but the voice part works well. Search Live is rolling out to some users in Search Labs, bringing a fresh way to explore the web.
