Apple plans to upgrade its 2027 iPhones with a new, power-efficient screen called LTPO3 OLED, made by Samsung. This technology, already used in the 2024 Apple Watch Series 10, helps save battery life, which is especially important for the slim iPhone Air. The new screen will likely make phones last longer on a single charge, perfect for thinner designs with smaller batteries.
The LTPO3 screen uses a special material called oxide in a key part that controls brightness, cutting down on power use compared to older screens. Apple’s 2025 iPhone 17 series will use LTPO2 screens, but by 2027, the company aims to switch to LTPO3, starting with the iPhone Air. Samsung and LG Display are expected to supply these screens, and Apple will decide by September 2025 to give them time to prepare.
This upgrade builds on Apple’s history of improving screens. The 2018 Apple Watch 4 used LTPO1, and later models got better versions. The 2027 iPhone Air’s new screen could set a new standard for smartphones, making them more efficient without losing performance. This move shows Apple’s focus on balancing sleek designs with longer battery life.
