iPadOS 26 brings stage manager to more iPads
Apple’s iPadOS 26 update makes multitasking easier by bringing Stage Manager to all iPads that can run the new software. Stage Manager, first introduced in 2022, lets users arrange multiple app windows in groups for a more organized work experience. Previously, it was only available on iPads with M1 or newer chips, like the iPad Pro and iPad Air, because of hardware demands.

Now, with iPadOS 26, Apple has extended Stage Manager to older models, including those without M-series chips. This means more people can resize and manage app windows across different spaces, making the iPad feel more like a computer. However, users must choose between Stage Manager and the new windowing system in the Settings app, as they can’t switch between them on the fly.

While Stage Manager works on all compatible iPads, older models may have limits, like supporting only four app windows at once. The update also replaces older multitasking features like Split View and Slide Over with a more flexible windowing system, giving users Mac-like controls for better productivity.

iPadOS 26 is currently in developer beta, with a public beta coming in July and a full release expected in September 2025. This change lets more iPad users enjoy a powerful tool for getting work done faster.
