Google’s Gemini app on Android just got a cool upgrade: it can now identify songs for you! With Google Assistant set to be phased out later in 2025, Gemini is stepping up. Before, asking “what song is this?” would just tell you to use another app. Now, Gemini uses Google Search’s awesome Song Search feature to figure out what’s playing.
When you ask Gemini to name a song, it opens a full-screen interface with a colorful, pulsing sphere. It listens to the music around you and shows the results right in the Google app. A note at the bottom says, “Songs that match will open in Google Search. Tap close to cancel.” It’s not built directly into Gemini yet, but it’s way better than getting a long text response that doesn’t help.
This feature rolled out in recent weeks and works great for Android users. Sadly, iOS users don’t have it yet—asking “what song is this?” on an iPhone doesn’t trigger Song Search. Alongside this, Gemini also added video upload for Android, iPhone, and web, letting you analyze clips or ask questions about YouTube videos.
This update makes finding songs super simple, bringing Gemini closer to replacing Google Assistant. Want to try it? Make sure your Gemini app is updated, and just ask it to name that tune.
