Samsung recently rolled out a surprise software update for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in the United States. This update, which includes the May 2025 security patch, focuses on improving the smartwatch’s security and stability. It’s a welcome addition for users, ensuring their devices remain protected and run smoothly.
The update is currently available for both Bluetooth and LTE models and can be downloaded through the Galaxy Wearable app. To install it, users should open the app on their phone, go to Watch Settings, select Watch Software Update, and tap Download and Install. The update, roughly 400MB in size, doesn’t add new features but strengthens the watch’s performance.
This release comes amid uncertainty about the Galaxy Watch 4’s future with One UI 8 Watch, the next major software upgrade based on Wear OS 6. Samsung has excluded the Watch 4 series from the One UI 8 Watch Beta Program, hinting that it may not receive this update.
Launched in 2021, the Watch 4’s four-year software support promise ends in August 2025, which could mean this security patch is one of its final updates.
Despite this, the Galaxy Watch 4 remains functional and reliable for daily use. Users looking for the latest features might consider upgrading to newer models like the Galaxy Watch 7 or the upcoming Watch 8 series, set to launch with One UI 8 Watch in July 2025.
