BMW’s new IX3 sets a new standard for ev charging
BMW is changing the game with its upcoming iX3, an electric SUV built on the brand-new Neue Klasse platform. This vehicle is designed from the ground up to deliver top-notch performance and efficiency, leaving behind the limitations of older models that shared parts with gas-powered cars. During a test at BMW’s facility in France, the iX3 hit an impressive charging speed of 403 kW.

This means it can add about 217 miles of range in just 10 minutes, making charging almost as quick as filling up a gas tank. The iX3 uses a modern 800-volt system and advanced cylindrical batteries, which are 20% more energy-dense than older designs. With a battery size of around 100 kWh, it offers up to 400 miles of range in the U.S. and 800 km in Europe. Inside, the iX3 feels futuristic with a single central computer, called the “Heart of Joy,” controlling most functions for smoother performance.

Features like one-pedal driving are refined, and the SUV supports bidirectional charging, letting it power devices or even homes. It’s set to debut at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025, with production starting in Hungary soon after. The iX3 is priced to compete with the BMW X3, around $50,000, but offers more range and tech than the pricier iX. This SUV is proof that BMW is serious about leading the electric vehicle race.
