Beware of scam texts targeting iPhone users
The FBI is warning about 150 million iPhone users in the U.S. to watch out for a tricky text message scam. These texts often pretend to come from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and may ask you to click a link or share personal details. The FBI says these messages can install harmful software on your phone, which could steal your private information or payment details.

David Palmer, a Supervisory Special Agent with the FBI in Tennessee, explained that these texts can “put bad software on your device, allowing scammers to take your data or money.” If you get one of these texts, the FBI urges you to delete it right away without clicking any links or responding. They also recommend reporting the scam to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center to help track and stop these criminals.

To stay safe, be cautious of any text from unknown numbers, especially those claiming to be from official places like the DMV. Never share personal info like your Social Security number or bank details through text. If you’re unsure about a message, contact the organization directly using a trusted phone number or website. The FBI’s warning reminds everyone to stay alert and protect their personal information from these sneaky scams.
