Android Auto to get new look with light and dark themes
Android Auto is about to get a fresh update that lets users pick how it looks on their car’s display. Soon, you’ll be able to choose between three themes: Light, Dark, or Automatic. The Automatic option will sync the app’s look with your phone’s theme, making it switch between light and dark based on your phone settings or time of day. This is a big step up from the current setup, where you can only change the Google Maps theme in Android Auto.

The new Light theme will brighten up the entire app, including the navigation bar and other parts, giving a cleaner and more consistent look. Google has been working on this for a while, and clues found in the latest Android Auto beta (version 14.7.152544) show it’s almost ready. The company even teased the Light theme at Google I/O 2025, though they haven’t shared a launch date yet.

These changes will also simplify the settings. Instead of separate theme options for Google Maps on your phone, the new choices will control the whole Android Auto experience. With the update rolling out soon, drivers won’t have to wait long to enjoy a brighter, more customizable interface in their cars.
