In a statement, he said his department was already considering shutting down the copper network and wanted telecommunications providers and the public to have until Nov 24.

The minister noted that Singapore has moved to full fiber use, while Australia and New Zealand are in the later stages of that process.

Israel fiber-optic infrastructureAfter years of delays and disputes between Israel’s largest telecommunications company Bezeq and the Ministry of Communications, Bezeq will begin deploying its fiber-optic network across the country in early 2021. Yoaz Hendel said the ministry is considering moving all telecom services to fiber.

The old communication infrastructure was insufficient to meet the growing demands of the public. They are polluting and perform poorly, he said in a statement, pointing to a global shift to fiber-optic networks as a trend.
