In the latest episode of The Official PlayStation Podcast, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience for PlayStation VR 2, confirmed that the PS VR2 headset does not support backward compatibility. That said, you won’t be able to play your original PS VR games on the new platform.

Sony PS VR2 compatible“PS VR games are not compatible with PS VR2 because PS VR2 was designed to provide a true next-gen VR experience. PS VR2 has more advanced features such as new controllers that support haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, as well as introverted exterior tracking, eye tracking, 3D audio, and of course HDR. This means that developing games for PS VR2 requires a completely different approach than the original PSVR.”
