In this regard, a Samsung spokesman confirmed that Lee Jae-yong will stay in the UK, but declined to explain the purpose of his visit. According to reports, Lee Jae-yong may discuss the acquisition of ARM, a British semiconductor intellectual property (IP) provider, during this visit.
According to a previous report, on May 30, Lee Jae-yong and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger held a meeting, at which the two sides may discuss joint investment in ARM. In September 2020, Nvidia announced that it would acquire the UK-based company, but the attempt failed after antitrust scrutiny in multiple countries. Since then, SK Hynix, Intel, and Qualcomm have also issued similar announcements.
