Samsung CEO Lee Jae-yong may discuss ARM acquisition

The South Korean government announced the amnesty list for “Liberation Day”. Among them, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and Samsung Head Lee Jae-yong was granted amnesty and reinstatement and was no longer restricted from practicing.

Moreover, after visiting Mexico and Panama, Lee Jae-yong started his European itinerary and arrived in the UK. It is reported that Lee Jae-yong will promote Busan’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo during this trip, and may attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19.

Samsung CEO ARM acquisitionIn this regard, a Samsung spokesman confirmed that Lee Jae-yong will stay in the UK, but declined to explain the purpose of his visit. According to reports, Lee Jae-yong may discuss the acquisition of ARM, a British semiconductor intellectual property (IP) provider, during this visit.

According to a previous report, on May 30, Lee Jae-yong and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger held a meeting, at which the two sides may discuss joint investment in ARM. In September 2020, Nvidia announced that it would acquire the UK-based company, but the attempt failed after antitrust scrutiny in multiple countries. Since then, SK Hynix, Intel, and Qualcomm have also issued similar announcements.
