Google plans to add ‘Fast Pair’ technology to Android phones

Google will add “Fast Pair” Bluetooth technology to Android phones in the next few months. This means that Google officials will finally be able to implement functions similar to automatic switching of Apple headphones and similar spatial audio in 2022.

Moreover, a pair of AirPods can automatically switch between iPhones, iPads, or Macs with the same ID without pairing. This experience is not currently available in Google’s official products. But if there is “Fast Pair support, Android phones, Chromebooks, Android TV” and some Windows PCs can also achieve automatic switching.

Google will also start supporting a concept like spatial audio on Android, which adjusts the sound based on the user’s head movement. It already supports some music services now.

Furthermore, the auto-switching and spatial audio are just two of the experiences in Fast Pair’s technology that will roll out “in the next few months,” not sure how Google will coordinate its many vendors, as Samsung has its own ecosystem of devices and headphones, and many other manufacturers are in a similar situation.

In addition to these two main features, a few other features will be available in 2022. For example, quick pairing is enabled on Google TV and Chromebooks.
