WhatsApp to add ‘My Contacts Except’ option for profile photo privacy

WhatsApp is working on a new custom privacy setting for Android users. Spotted in WhatsApp Beta version 2.21.21.2, the new feature seems to be the “My Contacts Except” option in profile photo privacy settings.

To be mentioned, WhatsApp has already provided this feature for iOS devices. Now the team is developing this same feature for Android users to let them gave more control over privacy customizations.

With this change, the users will be given more choices to customizes privacy settings for last seen, profile picture, about, and so on. Similar to “WhatsApp about”, users can now choose “my contacts except” while adding or updating the profile picture.

WhatsApp users who often change the WhatsApp Status privacy settings may familiar with this feature. It allows them to hide their activity, which they select from the contact list. Specifically, this function hides the user’s activity for the selected contacts.

Furthermore, this feature is already available for the WhatsApp Status and Groups. Now, the WhatsApp team also confirmed it for the profile picture after the last seen. To access this function –

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Select More and click on Setting
  • Choose the first option- Account
  • Now tap on Privacy
  • From here, you can set privacy for Last seen, Profile, About, Status, Groups, etc

To be mentioned, as of now, this feature is still in the development process, which means it is not available for all users. However, it will reach all users after the company ensures its security and stability.
