Launched back in March 2019, Mi 9 is one of the most famous flagships of Xiaomi. It entered the smartphone market with pre-installed Android 9 (Pie) while it is currently running on Android 11.
Unfortunately, Android 11 is the end of the major software updates for the device. The phone will even stop the development version of internal testing, which means closed beta tests from November 27.
However, a recent report by MIUI Pioneer Team claims that Xiaomi Mi 9 will get the RAM Expansion feature before EOL.

In detail, on September 3E0th, MIUI officially announced this week’s progress report and major event records. The MIUI Pioneer Team gave answers to questions raised by users this week. This includes questions on the compatibility of the Xiaomi Mi 9 with the memory fusion technology.
MIUI users asked if the memory fusion technology will arrive at the Xiaomi Mi 9. The Pioneer Team replied that there are plans in place presently. However, they asked users to verify in subsequent updates. This implies that this feature will arrive in the Xiaomi Mi 9 in due time, however, the company may not announce it when it does.
MIUI RAM Expansion:
RAM Expansion feature was first arrived for closed beta testers months ago. Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra was the first smartphone that tested the function before its wider availability. It is expected to be released for all users alongside MIUI 13.
At the moment, both mid-range and sub-premium Xiaomi phones have got the feature. Meanwhile now, it seems the list will expand even more. Initially, the capacity was capped at 1GB but has now improved to 3GB.
Meanwhile, it depends on the device and the amount of internal storage left. The function is expected to arrive on the Mi 9 in the subsequent beta builds.
How will it work?
After the function is turned on, the system will provide an additional 3.0GB of running memory. This function will take up part of the storage space, thus, one should use it when the storage space is sufficient.
The virtual expansion is effective when the smartphone has a small amount of RAM. This feature is not important for devices having more than enough RAM. But for some reason, the company decided to bypass the model, where there is little RAM.
