WhatsApp now lets users join ongoing group video calls

We all know WhatsApp. Along with group chatting and voice calling, the social media site also allows you to video chat with your family, friends, and loves ones. Recently, the company added a new UI for audio and video calls along with the ability to let users join missed group calls.

However, the functionality was limited to Beta users. Meanwhile now, the improvements are rolling out for more WhatsApp users.

What’s New?

Currently, when a group member makes a call, other group members could only join till WhatsApp kept ringing. Once the ringing is completed, users had no way of joining the ongoing call.

Meanwhile, the latest update will let users join existing calls. Also, they can rejoin ongoing calls if they momentarily leave. Users can even see an info screen to view who is on the call and who has been invited but not yet joined.

How will it work?

Once you update your WhatsApp, ongoing calls will be shown in the ‘Calls’ tab as long as the call is still going on, and group members will be able to join the call anytime.

According to WhatsApp, “Joinable calls reduce the burden of answering a group call as it starts, and brings the spontaneity and ease of in-person conversations to a group calling on WhatsApp.”
