Xiaomi releases kernel source codes for Redmi 10X 4G, Redmi 9, and Poco M2

Recently, Xiaomi published the Kernel Source Codes for its Redmi 10X 4G, Redmi 9, and Poco M2 smartphones. Well, these are the old smartphones and the company has already released Kernel Source codes for them. But the new codes are based on Android 11, except for Poco M2 which is still running on Android 10.

Both of these Redmi devices entered the smartphone markets with pre-installed MIUI 11 skin on top of Android 11. And they have received the Android 11 update this year. Also, the phones are eligible to get the MIUI 12.5 update. Thus, they will soon receive it.

Kernel Source Codes are one of the cornerstones of a flourishing aftermarket community that allows developers to build stable custom ROMs, kernels, and more. Every Android smartphone brand is bound by the General Public Licence v2 (GPLv2) to publicly release the part of the Linux kernel code they shipped on their Android devices.

Each OEM has its own direction when it comes to fulfilling this necessary task. Some drop the sources on the very first day the smartphone launches, while some might take weeks or even months to do the same job. There are no fixed rules, but ideally, you want an OEM to release the sources within the first few weeks of the device launch.
